Working from home.

My daughters are in love with their Dad. I mean, seriously. When he's home, it's heaven for them. Our littlest one even takes calls for him in the morning, how nice of her... He only works from home in the wee morning hours and then he heads to his office.

Some tidbits:

-Lillie is obsessed with food. She eats all the time. You cannot sit on the couch for longer than five minutes without her whining in despair at the foot of the pantry door. She loves eating. Jake and I think it's "hilarious". Sometimes.

-I am making 2009 into a blog book. It's so great to see my book take shape. Four years of blogging and I finally made a book. I'm using blurb.com. It's nice to have pictures printed along with text. Stories throughout our year, pictures flashing by so quickly that I can't believe a year is gone, just like that. I'm so glad I live in this age where I can blog. Would I ever print 500-something pictures, scrapbook them, and journal little bits of nonsense under each one by hand as the days go by? NO WAY. But I can print all of it out in a book. I kind of can't get over it.

-I'm in the market for a baby carrier. I have a bjorn but I want something more swaddly and closer to my body. I think I'll wear this baby a lot... I want a comfy way to strap her to me. And I usually swaddle my babies for months so I would like one that's snug and it can hold in the baby's arms and legs pretty good, but one that I can also use when she's older. If you have one that you LOVE, let me know which one and why you love it.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my wrap. It's called the "ultimate baby wrap," but really it's just a long piece of cloth that you wrap around your body in a certain way. I had one from the company and I've used cloth. If you get cloth, make sure it's stretchy, like cotton with a little bit of spandex or something (I'm not a fabric expert).

Laurel just had a baby last week and is already up and around cleaning while "wearing" her baby with her baby wrap! Wonder woman!

I made myself a baby sling. I love it. Matthew spent his first 5 months in it. He loved it also.

Look on Etsy.com for ideas. Also it is not hard to make a sling. I can email you the tutorial if you are interested.

I have a baby bjorn, and a homamde sling/wrap.....I'm just dying to try a Moby Wrap for our next little one. They hold baby very close up against the body, and are made of stretchy knit type material. They retail for about 39.95 From what I've read, they aren't truly safe for toddlers due to the stretchiness of the material. If you want to wear into toddler years a non-stretch woven fabric is recommended.
One of my favorite blogs - the cloth diaper whisperer - has a few product reviews on the Moby, and some other wraps....
Hope that was helpful. Out of curiosity I'm gonna meander over to the ulitmatebybwrap.com...looks interesting!

PS what I don't like about the Baby Bjorn and my sling is that I eventually (within an hour) have pain in my shoulders/back. Apparently, Moby and Ultimate Baby Wraps distribute weight more evenly on the body - causing less to no pain.

Sarah I used a petunia pickle bottom sling with Bella & loved it. It was beautiful material too. I just sold it to kid 2 kid or I'd give it to you. I think it's still there, if you want to run & buy it!!! I'm sure it's pretty cheap second hand (& it's in perfect condition). It was very snuggly & I lugged her around with me everywhere. I could still technically be using it as a hip carrier, but I didn't for some reason. I also have a ring sling that you can borrow, but I could never get it to work as well. Although, I know other people who love those, so I guess it's trial & error for each person.

I used the Moby wrap on and off. There were things I really liked about it, but it was difficult to get it on by myself at first. But, it was much more useful than the Bjorn. I would say the investment is worth it. I just lent it to a friend with a newborn and she loves it too. I always wanted an Ergo carrier for when the baby got a bit bigger, but I never made the investment.

I love my hug-a-monkey sling.... it was awesome for my brand new baby .... loved it for the period she had to be held during the evenings as dinner was supposed to be happening.... and not only that... I love it when I have my car seat in the cart and can sling my 2 year old on my back at the store.

Hey! My friend Erica makes slings..you can see a link on my blog (Bugaroo Baby). She makes them to fit so they are just your size. You can see mine if you want. They are the best! Whats your date again? How exciting!

Love checking in with you Sarah. Your girls are beautiful...I'm dying to know the name of the fourth...can NOT wait to see photos of her...and really just love that you will be the friend with four girls.

My sister swears by the Ergo carrier, but not for newborns. I think the peanut slings are good for newborns and as they get older, the ergo is fab.

I use the Moby wrap for the first few months and it is SO comfortable - no back or shoulder pain and the baby can be put in many different positions very securely. It IS a bit difficult to get the hang of the first few times and you need to "pre-wrap" yourself if you are using it at a store, but so worth it! I also made my own so I could have a few extras around and if you get good material you don't even have to sew it, just cut - and for pretty cheap.

After about 4-6 months, I switch to the Maya wrap, which is really more of a sling with the two rings to adjust. The new ones are padded nicely for your shoulder and my babies love it. I use it everywhere, and it has a great carrying pocket to make it easier to go without any extra baggage.
