Changed My Mind

Sorry guys. I decided not to go in for the "external cephalic version" (see below). I was getting nervous in the afternoon, and by this evening, just had to go with my instinct which is: leave the baby alone, wait a little bit and maybe she'll flip on her own. There was a good chance that everything tomorrow would have gone fine, but there was also a chance that the doctors turning her would have caused her to go into distress, and then I would have a c-section at 37 almost 38 weeks. I decided to wait and see if I can hold her in there for another week or so. Who knows, if they miscalculated my due date at all, she could be younger than 38 weeks and born with her lungs being slightly premature or some other complication.

Maybe I'm just a natural girl, but I didn't get excited about two people pushing her around with their forearms, either. Who knows what the next week or two will bring, but there is a high chance that I'll have a c-section because she's breech. 87% chance, actually. I've been on Google a lot tonight:) So I'm trying to get used to that. And hoping for the best. These decisions are tough, but I am SO lucky to have a healthy (and hairy) baby girl in there!

from everything I hear it is way painfull when they turn the baby, so it sounds like you made a wize decision...time will tell, and hopefully we can see pictures of your cute, healthy baby girl soon!!! (secretly I'm so jealous - everyone I know is pregnant or having babies!)

So, Mom told me when I was there last night. And, I'm so relieved!!!!! that you are not going to do anything to that poor unpside down baby girl! i mean, there's a million things that could happen from now until her birth, and i'm so glad you are giving her a chance! and not letting that hospital opperate on a Smylie girl! i will probably call you and tell you all of this again.
much love!

I think you have made the right decision. Bub has a few more weeks to turn. I've heard so many stories were babies have turned just prior to the mother going into labor. Trust your instincts and you'll do just fine. xx

hey sarie - sounds like you're doing the right thing waiting it out. if you're at peace and not frantic about your decision then you're probably doing the right thing. i always tend to go with the least invasive methods - mother nature usually has a pretty good handle on things.

we love you.

my aunt had two if her babies breeched she went into labor on her own and didn't have a c-section. I guess it depends on the dr. I wouldn't worry about having the baby to early. Both of my kids were early. I'm quite glad because they would have been huge.

Oh man sarah! That little stinker. I think your smart to wait as long as possible. I've also heard that trying to turn a baby can be very painful. Plus were you really ready to give up to more weeks with the older girls and sleep (if you're getting any)? With Rylee I was anxious to see her and hold her but not enought to make her come any sooner than close to 40 weeks. I was just enjoying the calm before the storm. Keep us posted!

You made the right decision. Even if you do have a c-section, it's not all that bad. I've had two, the first was an emergency and very scary and the second was because I'd had the first. It was worth it to have my two sweet babies.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS go with your instinct! You're in my prayers.

She actually moved?! I had no idea a baby could do that at 38 weeks. You are smart, I think, to just go with your gut and not let others (doctors and such) convince you otherwise. As exciting as it is to get them here, it's always kind of fun to just have a few more moments as your family before the chaos begins right?! :)

Good on ya. Go with your gut!

Smart Mama! Taylor was the same way and actually turned between my 39th and 40th week. Little girl Smylie is just relaxing and enjoying the ride. We've missed you guys and will see you Sunday (or maybe not)!

I applaud any person who makes a scary choice but is willing to trust what they feel. I know that sounds cheesy, but I'm serious.

I don't know about breech babies that much, but I do know about a mothers gut feeling and that it's very important...sounds like you are doing the right thing, we wish you the best:)

i am sorry that i didn't see this earlier. I had the baby turned externally by a doctor that everyone recommended and it turned out great. It was only painful from the skin being stretched while the turn the baby with some pretty good force and really uncomfortable when they haev to push so hard on your uterus to turn it...but i am glad that i did it and it kept little mailee down. either way doing it or not, i say kudos to you for going with your gut...that's all that matters!

If you have not had a c-section, I HIGHLY do not reccomend it! But you gotta do what you gotta do. I have to have a c-section because I had one with Drake. Yuck! But i have no idea what the inversion things feels like. I just know what a c-section feels like. Amazing the things we do for the safety of our babies, huh!?! Good luck!

Oh yea, I was breech up until 2 days beofre my mom delivered me. I turned on my own. So you never know. (I was 5 days late)

I'm working my way up on the new posts... so I don't know if there's an update yet... but we have really got to talk. Sophia was breech, which is why she was c-section. Bummer. But I've got all sorts of mixed feelings on the whole thing. They never tried the turning thing-- my doctor wasn't in to it. Not sure it was for the same reasons that I wasn't "into it" but.... really curious where you're at now. AHHH --- so close!
