‘We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same.’ ~ Carlos Castenada

This quote hit me today. How true this is. I was reading up on some news and just getting so sad about Sudan. The people of Darfur. I just want to bring the 2.5 million displaced African people into my home. They can have my comfy bed and my living room and I'll even let them into the church for shelter, and I'll turn my faucet on and give them my clothes and hug them. I'll tell the idiot running the government over there that he needs to let the U.N. angels administer what they are willing to administer. Why can't people realize the power, delicacy and beauty of life?

Anyway, the quote made me realize how lucky we all are and how little I have to complain about. I need to be strong only for the reason that the sufferers in Sudan are strong while they lose their family members and don't even have water to drink...

Yes, Sudan breaks my heart. It is the saddest thing that the world has let happen. And I'm with you about human life...I can't fathom how/why ppl can disregard it so easily. I think you and I should set up a non-profit for Africa now...

Better ask your bishop first - I doubt he'd be too happy to have people camping out in the church building. Something else to think about - how much food could the church have sent to Sudan if it hadn't spent money building a new temple in Sacramento ? Here's an idea - for the year 2007, send 10% of your income to Sudan instead of Salt Lake City. Ask yourself honestly - who needs the money more ?

Hm. So to "anonymous": I like to give money to Sudan AND to the L.D.S. church. The church also likes to give money to Sudan AND build temples. It doesn't hurt to move toward more than one cause. Let's broaden this. How much food could we have sent to Sudan if we hadn't gone out to eat or bought gas or seen a movie? A lot. I think we should redirect our finger pointing from each other toward Africa and all work toward a kinder and peaceful society.

Well said, Sarah. Anonymous, that's just ignorance talking.
